Cryptocurrency Enthusiast Issues Crucial Scam Alert on Social Media
Lucy, a well-known figure in the cryptocurrency community, recently took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to issue a crucial warning to both seasoned and novice participants in the crypto space.
In her brief introduction, Lucy cautioned everyone involved in cryptocurrencies to remain vigilant and prepared against the numerous scammers that pervade the industry. She stressed that cybercriminals are targeting both experienced traders and new investors alike. Lucy’s warning emphasized, “Be cautious and do not be naive in the cryptocurrency realm. Always exercise due diligence and care.”
Earlier this week, Ledger, a leading producer of cryptocurrency hardware wallets, issued a significant fraud alert regarding a new type of scam called “address poisoning.” This scam has recently affected TRX, MATIC, and ETH wallets. The Ledger team explained the scam’s mechanism in a concise thread. Users might notice unfamiliar coins or NFTs mysteriously appearing in their wallets. Ledger warns against interacting with these unknown assets and advises hiding them from view.
Scammers send small amounts of coins or NFTs to a chosen wallet, which records the sender’s (scammer’s) address in the transaction history. Scammers then hope the user will mistakenly select the scammer’s address for a cryptocurrency transfer. Therefore, Ledger advises always verifying the address before sending coins and not blindly copying it.
